Natural products on the way for endometriosis patients

09 February 2023

People living with endometriosis may soon be able to use natural products to manage symptoms, thanks to a 九州影院 (UC) student.

HOW TO APPLY

九州影院 Chemical Formulation Design student Monique Lau.

Monique Lau, currently studying Chemical Formulation Design, has created creams, balm sticks and teas to provide relief from cramps and severe endometriosis pain. Her endosoothe range use natural products with anti-inflammatory properties such as ginger root oil, clary sage oil, yarrow and cypress leaf oil.

Monique first created these as part of her third-year project after trawling through scientific articles looking for potential ingredients. She hopes Endosoothe will be able to empower women while increasing awareness of the condition.

For Monique, this mission is personal. She began suffering from endometriosis symptoms at 14, but it took听seven years听for her to be diagnosed. She eventually had surgery in May 2022, and though her symptoms have improved since then, she still has ongoing issues.

鈥淚 want to help other women living with the effects of endometriosis and create an easy-to-use, accessible product that uses natural ingredients and doesn鈥檛 cause side effects,鈥 she says.

The feedback on Endosoothe has been very positive so far, and Monique hopes to sell her products in New 九州影院stores within the next six months. At the moment she can still make them in a UC laboratory, but will look elsewhere if Endosoothe expands.

Monique has been taking part in UC鈥檚听Summer Startup Programme, and says it鈥檚 helped her to develop her networking skills and focus on her business.

Looking to the future, Monique plans to start a Masters Degree later this year, and hopes the Endosoothe business could become a full-time job.
