Restoring ecosystems to boost biodiversity is urgent

The newly launched Eco-index initiative, an online ecosystem restoration map for New Zealand, can guide the way.

Biodiversity continues to decline globally, but nowhere is the loss more pronounced than in Aotearoa New Zealand, which has the highest proportion of threatened indigenous species in the world.

Large-scale biodiversity restoration projects require high-quality data because without accurate information, improving biodiversity becomes harder. The Eco-index Ecosystem Restoration Map provides New Zealand鈥檚 first public, open-access digital tool in this area.
