Start dates all students - on campus and distance
- Your programme of study starts on听Monday 27 January. If you are fully enrolled, you will be able to start accessing online resources via our听听from this date.
- From听Monday 27听January听鈥 Friday 31 January,听you will be required to attend a听compulsory On-site intensive and Orientation programme in Christchurch.听This will provide opportunities to meet fellow students and staff, develop study skills and learn about the qualification, the Faculty and UC.听
- On your first day,听Monday 27听January, you will arrive on Ilam campus听at 8:30am C Block,听to register and prepare for the Mihi whakatau (a formal welcome ceremony).听听Information about Mihi whakatau, including appropriate attire, can be found on our website.
- Your听听will provide confirmed times for required attendance.
- The compulsory orientation is an important introduction to UC's听Faculty of Education听and being a student here. You will meet fellow students and staff, learn study skills and have the structure of the qualification explained. You will, in the orientation period, begin some of your courses.
- Distance students听last activity finishes 5pm, Friday 31 January.
- Please note noho marae occurs in semester two for this programme.
International students
- International pre-service teachers must attend an International Orientation session, details of this session will be provided via email.
- The compulsory orientation is an important introduction to UC's听Faculty of Education and being a student here. You will meet fellow students and staff, learn study skills and have the structure of the qualification explained. You will, in the orientation period, begin some of your courses.
- In addition to the compulsory orientation, International students are also invited to attend an听international student welcome听and orientation activities. Information can also be found at听International Student Support.
Courses
The Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood) is a 1 year full-time programme offered on campus (c) or distance (d) and is made up of the following compulsory courses:

- TEPI 362 Being a Professional Teacher
- TEPP 361 Professional Practice 1
- TEPP 362 Professional Practice 2
- TECE 361 Holistic Development, Learning and Culture
- TECE 362 Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers
- TECE 364 Pedagogy of Play
- TECE 365 The Intentional Teacher
