The Postgraduate Certificate in Te Reo M膩ori (PGCertTREO) offers speakers the opportunity to further develop their language skills and receive professional recognition of their development. The PGCertTREO is an ideal option for those without previous university study in te reo, or university study in general, who have significant experience in the language and work in the M膩ori sector.
The Certificate also allows speakers of te reo M膩ori to enter into advanced postgraduate study in the Master of Te Reo M膩ori.
For the PGCertTREO you must have a relevant bachelor鈥檚 degree, with a B Grade Point Average or better in 60 points of your 300-level major subject courses, and have had at least three years of experience in the M膩ori sector.
Those without a bachelor鈥檚 degree must have extensive practical, professional, or scholarly experience of an appropriate kind.
All applicants will also be required to submit a portfolio of professional experience, and attend a selection interview.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Te Reo M膩ori is made up of 60 points of 400-level courses.
The Certificate can be completed in 6 months full-time, or up to 2 years part-time.

The other 30 points towards the Certificate can be chosen from 400-level Te Reo M膩ori courses.
UC offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Te Reo M膩ori, a Master of Te Reo M膩ori, and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Te Reo M膩ori.
With approval, you may transfer completed courses from the Certificate (passed with a B Grade Point Average or higher) to the honours, postgraduate diploma, or master's programmes.
Students with formal recognition of their te reo skills will find work opportunities in a range of industries, for example within teaching, publishing, writing and translation work, government, communications and stakeholder engagement, and entertainment industries.
Graduates will also be able to contribute to the growing language revitalisation initiatives of iwi, and the culture and history of Aotearoa New Zealand.
