Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology

Entry requirements

This is a limited entry programme (of 16 people each year). A special application is required. See 'How to apply' below for more details.

You will need to have either:

  • an honours degree in Psychology (Bachelor of Arts with Honours or Bachelor of Science with Honours); or
  • Part I of a master鈥檚 degree from an Aotearoa New 九州影院university in Psychology completed (Master of Arts or Master of Science); or
  • an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University and approved by the Head of Department.

If English is your additional language, you are also required to meet requirements and provide evidence of IELTS (academic) 7.5, with no score less than 7.0.

Note: To be eligible for registration as a psychologist by the under the Clinical Scope of Practice, applicants must have fulfilled the requirements which include a minimum level of academic attainment (a master's degree) and supervised practice hours. Concurrent enrolment in a master's may therefore be required. Concurrent enrolment in a PhD is also possible.

How to apply

Selection for the programme is competitive as 16 people are selected each year. Selection is based on academic record, letters of recommendation, research interests, and experience in social service work.

How do I plan my degree?

The Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology consists of two years of coursework and at least one year of practical work experience (3 years full-time). The PGDipClinPsyc can also be completed part-time.
