Conducting research at graduate level requires students to navigate a number of different milestones. Enhancing your knowledge and skills to successfully complete these whilst developing and maintaining great working relationships with everyone involved is crucial to a smooth research journey.听

HOW TO APPLY

Te Kura T膩ura has developed different workshops and events that help you prepare for each milestone and understand all processes involved. Furthermore, you are able to attend sessions that specifically focus on providing you with tools and strategies for building successful working relationships.听

Preparing for milestones

Doctoral Pre-Arrival Question Session

Join the Graduate School Research Student Advisors (Kaitoko) to ask any questions you have about starting your Doctoral research at UC. We can answer questions about local culture, accommodation, settling into Christchurch as well as life at UC.

Doctoral Orientation

Doctoral Orientation is a chance for new doctoral students to meet staff from Te Kura T膩ura | UC Graduate School and learn what to expect in the first stage of their doctoral journey.

Kick-Start your Thesis

This is a key session to introduce new research students to the support available from Pokap奴 P奴kenga Ako | Academic Skills Centre, Te Kura T膩ura | UC Graduate School and Ng膩 Puna M膩tauraka Ako | UC 九州影院.听

Speakers will share top tips and answer your questions in relation to getting started with your thesis writing.听

Working well with your supervisory team is key to a successful doctoral candidature. This workshop guides you through key aspects of managing your supervisory relationship, including鈥痚xpectations and processes, cultural norms and communication, feedback, support and how to manage your research timeline.听


International Scholars' Collective

The International Scholars鈥 Collective is a monthly activity designed for international scholars. Each month at the Collective scholars join their peers and facilitators to discuss a theme relevant to research students in an Aotearoa context, to share experience and tips that support their personal settlement in 艑tautahi | Christchurch and research skill development at UC, and to celebrate each other鈥檚 progress and growth.听
